Today’s organizations demand instant, accurate information. According to The Gartner Group, an IT consulting firm based in Stamford, Conn., U.S. businesses spend $360 billion annually turning the information on the documents they receive every day into something that they can use to run their business. Captiva Software Corporation, the largest and most established force in today’s digital information capture industry, satisfies this demand by providing superior software products that optimize the capture and management of information. By managing information as it enters an organization, Captiva Software products save time and money while simultaneously improving quality of service.

Documents are containers that represent the business information and processes we use every day. Using advanced technology, Captiva software shortcuts the front-end of traditional processes by capturing documents digitally (using scanners, fax machines, or electronic means), extracting the meaningful information from them, automatically applying the business rules and decision processes that ensure their accuracy, and feeding the perfected results transparently into the ERP, accounting, credit, document, and management information systems which need them.

Captiva markets its products to a variety of business and government organizations around the world. Captiva’s software is used by banks, insurance companies, hospitals, governments, service bureaus, and others to capture and perfect information from order forms, credit applications, insurance claims, surveys, tax forms, and other documents that feed their business systems. Whether an organization receives its information via mail, fax, or electronic means, Captiva delivers the right information to the right place at the right time.

Captiva’s award-winning product and service offerings include: Captiva™, an enterprise-class information capture platform for complex environments and multiple media types; FormWare™, a, department-level data capture application; IFPS™, a departmental data capture product designed for specific vertical markets; and Genesis™, a packaged solution for desktop applications. All of our software products are backed by our AdvantEDGE™ service and support programs, offering our customers and partners the choice of the integration, support, and customization they need.

Over the years Captiva has advanced its technology offerings by merging with or acquiring the capabilities of other leading companies. Captiva Software was created in 1998 by the merger of two leaders in forms processing – Wheb Systems, Inc. and FormWare Corporation. FormWare’s reputation in the industry was highlighted by its expertise in highly productive keying methodologies, as well as its image processing and recognition technologies. Wheb Systems was regarded for its mission-critical product architecture and system integration expertise. FormWare had previously acquired Symbus Corporation for its innovative image processing and recognition technologies. The combined company, which holds numerous awards and patents for its accomplishments, provides customers and resellers with the broadest range of products, services, and technology for document and data capture available in the industry.

The company’s roots began in 1989 with a generation of highly efficient data entry software products. Today that has grown into a broad range of products and services targeted at optimizing the delivery of information into today’s sophisticated information systems. Ranging from low-volume, desktop products to high-volume, mission critical enterprise products, Captiva’s offerings have a common mission: To relieve the burden organizations face in feeding their information-intensive systems faster, more cost effectively, and with greater accuracy. Considering the inordinate time spent entering and validating data, the high downstream cost of incoming errors, and demands for instant responsiveness, Captiva’s software provides the missing link required for greater efficiency and competitive advantage.

Even the most modern information systems are not designed with information input in mind. Although they may provide terrific amounts of useful information and control within an organization, they can be very expensive to feed and maintain. Captiva has developed world class key entry, character recognition, data purification, decisioning and scalable Internet component technologies to optimize the path from the receipt of documents to the information systems that need them. This involves both forms processing (where key pieces of data are automatically read from documents so that decisions can be made), and document capture (where an entire picture of a document is automatically captured, routed, and stored digitally in place of the paper original).

Captiva’s Genesis™ software is designed to serve the low-volume needs of organizations at the desktop level. It includes the ability to scan, recognize, and correct regular, structured documents for either forms processing or document capture applications. It can read hand printed, machine printed, barcode, or mark sense information automatically, and can deliver data, images, PDF, or HTML in an easy to use package that is simple to install and operate.

FormWare-Enterprise™ and IFPS™ are products designed to serve more complex capture needs in a higher-volume, multi-user environment. Situations where documents are more complex, or the business process involves more steps, or the volumes grow, they fill the bill with outstanding scanning, fax capture, recognition, key entry, and export capabilities. They also excel in their extensibility - complex business rules and routing can be plugged into them to expand their functionality or alter the flow of information. FormWare-Enterprise is commonly found in environments where a large portion of the documents processed are not "ICR-friendly", whereas IFPS most often finds its home in vertical markets with specific business rules or environments which are mostly "ICR-friendly".

Captiva™ is our next-generation, enterprise-class product. Targeted at large organizations with the need for processing large amounts of complex information in a short period of time, Captiva is built from the ground up with the latest technologies available. It is capable of processing tens of thousands of intermixed, variable length documents including hand printed, machine printed, barcode, or mark sense data in hours. Captiva is based upon our exclusive Intellipath™ business rule and routing technology, which sets the standard for global data and document capture.

Captiva Software provides a wide assortment of add-on modules for use with its product lines. These include StreetWise™ address validation, ClearView™ image processing, FraudAlert™ social security validation, Archive & Query™ modules, and a variety of capabilities designed for credit processing, HCFA claims, money transfers, tax forms, order entry and more. Our world-class AdvantEDGE™ suite of service programs complements our software product line through standardized training, custom software development options, and a variety of technical support levels including toll-free support.

FormWare is an award winning family of high performance software modules that provide a complete forms processing solution. These modules allow users to quickly automate data capture from forms, eliminate keystrokes to reduce data entry costs and still maintain the high level of accuracy required in forms processing applications.

FormWare uses a modular architecture that is open, scaleable and workflow controlled. It includes forms definition, scanning, image pre-processing, OCR/ICR/OMR and barcode recognition modules that allow machine print, hand print, marks and barcodes in images to be quickly read and converted to ASCII data. FormWare's post recognition processing module reflects TextWare's historical expertise in this market and provides superior reject repair, image data entry, key verification and data validation to complete and perfect the data capture process. FormWare's JobFlow module provides specialized data capture workflow capabilities to automatically route batches of images and data from module to module and graphically report the status of all unprocessed, in process and completed work. Using this information, managers can rapidly identify processing problems, prioritize jobs and visually reconfigure systems to optimize throughput.

All FormWare modules are designed to operate in a batch processing mode, run on industry standard LAN and PC based platforms and take full advantage of the graphical user interface and 32-bit processing power available with Windows 95 and NT Workstation 4.0.

When FormWare was introduced at the AIIM '96 Show & Conference, Inform Magazine honored FormWare with its ShowStopper Award for Outstanding Software. In 1997 Imaging Magazine gave FormWare a 1996 Product of the Year Award, saying that "FormWare was arguably the most exciting new product to come out of AIIM '96" and that they were particularly impressed by FormWare's "ground-breaking design." In 1997 Imaging Magazine also gave FormWare an Editors' Choice Award and Kinetic Information and AIIM gave Amtrak, FormWare's first installation site, a 1997 Process Innovation Award.
